Subject: Experiential Path Scholarship Announcement 2019
From: Chris Hanley

January 9, 2019

Dear Colleagues,

The ACZM has allocated funds to sponsor the registration costs for one individual that meets the criteria below to be used towards an ACZM-sponsored exam preparation event. This year, we will have one in association with AAZV/NAG/AAV/AARV/AEMW in Saint Louis in September. These funds are intended to stimulate the participation of colleagues following the “experiential pathway” (previously known as the “alternative pathway”). If you are currently mentoring such an individual, please consider making a nomination.

 Criteria for funding:

-Individual must have a declared ACZM mentor (this can be done at the time of application, but must follow guidelines). Please see guidelines for mentorship at www.aczm.org .

  • Individual must NOT have attended an ACZM-approved residency, and is considered to be following the “experiential pathway” of completing 6 years of 100% zoological medicine (or equivalent). An individual could have participated in a non-ACZM approved program.
  • Individual must show commitment to become a Diplomate.
  • The scholarship covers the course of the program registration. Other expenses are expected to be covered by the recipient.

To apply:

Please submit a letter of nomination to ACZM Education Chair, Chris Hanley (hanley@stlzoo.org), no later than April 1st, 2019. The letter must serve to confirm that the individual meets the above criteria, that the individual is committed to seeking Diplomate status, and a statement about why financial support is needed.

We will notify the selected individual by April 30th, 2019.

Thank you!

Christopher S. Hanley, DVM, Dipl ACZM, Education Committee Chair.
