Greg Lewbart receives IAAAM Medway Award for Excellence in Teaching

Dr. Greg Lewbart received the William Medway Award for Excellence in Teaching at the 43rd Annual Meeting of the International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine (IAAAM), held in Atlanta, Georgia, 12 - 16 May 2012. This award is presented to an individual who, in his/her activities within the past 10 years, has made a significant impact on teaching aquatic sciences in one or more of the following areas: clinical education, clinical scientific research, conservation, management of wild or captive aquatic species. Dr. Medway taught clinical pathology and zoological medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine for thirty years. He was a pioneer in the field of marine mammal medicine and was a charter member of IAAAM. This award is given in his honor. Dr. Lewbart was nominated by 6 past presidents of IAAAM and accepted by unanimous vote of the Executive Board, in recognition of his outstanding teaching nationally and internationally, his publication record including the textbook Invertebrate Medicine (1st and 2nd editions, both recipients of "Texty" Awards), and his tireless service on behalf of student development within IAAAM. Dr. Lewbart has been a diplomate of ACZM since 2000.
