Detailed Schedule and Registration:
The Education Committee of the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) is offering an Exam Preparation and Study Course in conjunction with the 2016 ExoticsCon, the joint conference of the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV), and the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV).
This course was previously known as the “ultrashort course.” Important to note is that there will be no traditional week-long ACZM short course in 2016, making this one of the only ACZM exam and study preparatory courses that will be offered this year.
Who Should Take this Course?
This course is open to graduate veterinarians only. Course attendees may be any veterinarian interested in learning more about the American College of Zoological Medicine, those that are interested in seeking ACZM Diplomate status, those that are in the process of preparing for the ACZM board examination, or any individual who could benefit from in-depth, up-to-date, literature-based review lectures on the medicine of avian, herptile, mammalian, aquatic and invertebrate species. This exam preparation and study course is administered and instructed by ACZM Diplomates and other specialists, including Drs. Lisa Harrenstien, Stephen Divers and Jennifer Graham. The course is divided into two main sections:
First Section: (Morning)
Introduction of attendees to the history and mission of the American College of Zoological Medicine
Discussion of possible reasons for becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine
Explanation of how to become eligible to take the ACZM examination, and discussion of study and test-taking strategies. Special focus will be given to the findings of a job task analysis completed by ACZM in 2011, which has provided additional real-world context for design of the ACZM board examination. Anyone with interest in becoming board-eligible or taking the ACZM examination would be expected to benefit from this section.
One in-depth topic lecture. Topic lectures are meant to be a thorough review of the literature and to help the attendee prepare his/her study strategy and organization of the
Second Section: (Afternoon)
Two additional lectures intended to cover specific zoological medicine topics in-depth.
The teaching will end with a mock exam and a discussion of the mock exam answers.
Meals:
Lunch will be provided, to allow opportunity for networking, sharing experiences and personal study strategies.
The day will end with a relaxed dinner reception at the home of an ACZM Diplomate.
Course attendees will receive an electronic version of ACZM information handouts, in-depth lecture materials, lunch and dinner.
Registration:
The registration fee for this course is $250 per person for early registration (through July 15th) or $300 per person for registration July 16th through August 27th . If there are not enough registrants by July 16th, the course will be cancelled and payments returned.
